Personalities
Some would say that John Robert Young was at his best when photographing people, whether a beautiful woman, a religious leader or an international statesman. Portraying the fragile reality of human nature has always fascinated him. He has always preferred to photograph his subjects against their own familiar surroundings - George Adamson in Kenya, Albert Schweitzer at his jungle hospital in Lambarene and Joanna Lumley at her home in London. His discreet and unobtrusive way of working has endeared him to his subjects - the famous the glamorous, the memorable and occasionally the saintly.
